SNF is the world’s leading polyacrylamide manufacturer, supplying a range of flocculants and coagulants for Industrial & Municipal Wastewater Treatment.
SNF has developed a range of more than 1000 products which are used in processes where water is present: drinking water production, wastewater treatment, sludge dewatering, oil and gas extraction, mining, agriculture, and the manufacture of paper, textiles and cosmetic preparations.
The project comprises the remediation of a 40 Acre site and construction of new production plant to produce polyacraylamide polymers. The site was disused brownfield land that had previously been owned by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) and was extensively used for the production of various chemical agents over the decades which resulted in the site becoming contaminated.
The construction of the new production plant will be carried out in phases to allow the start of manufacture on the main production lines. The main structures and facilities on the completed works will include: emulsion production building; transformer building and canopy unloading area; warehouse & maintenance building; office buildings; acrylamide production building, transformer building and control rooms; unloading & waste area; storage area; rainwater storage and containment pits; and pipe-bridges.
SNF, as well as being client for the project, took on the lead roles for the design, management and coordination of the construction works. They adopted the roles of both Principal Designer and Principal Contractor.
SNF engaged SRC to provide health and safety support services to advise and assist them in implementing effective management arrangements for the project. This approach ensured the planning, design and execution of the project was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the CDM Regulations and in line with health and safety best practice.
The scope of this appointment expanded to cover providing health and safety monitoring on site of appointed sub-contractors and ensuring client duties with respect to provision of pre-construction information were discharged.
SRC worked closely with SNF to ensure that CDM duties were discharged and monitored the update and review of key documentation including:
- F10 notifications to the Health and Safety Executive.
- Review, update and distribution of pre-construction information to designers and sub-contractors.
- Preparation, review and updating of the Construction Phase Plan.
- Monitoring the development and management of an engineering and on-site Hazard Elimination and Management Record.
