EON – Fire Risk Assessments
Client: EON Climeate & Renewables
Value: £ Confidential
Dates: 2014 – Present
Eon EC&R are one of the largest Utility companies operating in the UK and Europe, they currently own and manage 13 onshore windfarms and 5 offshore windfarm sites, these include Humber gateway, Robin Rigg and Rampion offshore windfarm
The commission involves the Fire Risk Assessment of various wind turbine generators (WTGs) and Operations and Maintenance Facilities held across the EON Climate and Renewables entire fleet of onshore sites, both as asset owner and operation & engineering manager (OEM) with responsibility for the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order in so far as a temporary workplace and for that in respect of asset protection which could affect others including environmental impact.
Whilst the WTGs are not regarded as a commercial asset forming the traditional built environment to which people are routinely at risk from fire as place to live or work, the risk to maintenance technicians in such remote locations circa 100m at the top of a steel tower surrounded by flammable materials and sources of ignition pose a serious threat.
The potential for the discharge of flammable materials ejected or discharged during WTG fire also poses as risk to those in the immediate vicinity and pollution on the atmosphere not to mention the value of a lost asset damaged by fire.
Whilst this example does not relate to traditional buildings it demonstrates the competence of our consultants to undertake complex survey in unusual circumstances and across a portfolio spread across the country considering both the protection of human life and commercial asset.
