Curve Building Refurbishment
Client: Queen Mary University London
Dates: Sep 2016 – Jul 2017
The project comprised the refurbishment of ground floor catering facilities and student canteen facilities. Replacing the main campus kitchens, front of house and seating areas.
Steel River Consultants (SRC) were appointed as CDM Advisor to the University and Principal Designers in partnership with JH Partners the lead designer for the project. SRC lead the Principal Designer role discharging the duties under the CDM Regulations 2015.
Our role included supporting the client with the identification of relevant Pre-Construction information, identifying gaps in the existing records and recommending relevant surveys.
SRC were appointed from the concept of the project with involvement throughout the design stages, liaising with the design team to manage the design risk process identifying relevant project health and Safety risks, giving advice on a balanced approach to mitigational measures.
The original Principal Contractor for the building of the Curve went into Liquidation on completion of the project with no As-built or operation and maintenance manuals provided. Our experience of construction and knowledge building technologies were put to use assisting the design team identifying the residual risks and guiding the design team throughout the design stages.
Our experience was put to use guiding the client in terms of site establishment and phasing of the project. The kitchen facility was required to function throughout the construction phase and a strategy for segregation was required.
