Overview

Chase Park was originally the private estate of Whickham house, one of several Georgian mansions built for prominent families and Whickham’s Villages Green. The historic features within the park include a grade II listed windmill built in 1720 as well as the high sandstones walls which form the boundary of the park.  

The project involved the redevelopment of the existing park. The works involved the resurfacing of paths, repair works on the stone boundary walls, conservation work to the historic windmill, improvements to the entrances for the park, restore the sunken garden, new tree and shrub planting. The project also included refurbishment of the existing play area for the toddler/ junior area and to provide teenage equipment and new park signing and seating.

Our Appointment

Steel River Consultants were appointed to carry out a number of deliverables including facilitating the initial CDM meeting with the client and stakeholders for the park to establish the project CDM responsibilities.

SRC were involved in design meetings throughout the design stages of the project managing the design risk management process, liaising with the design team to reduce health and safety risks were practicable. SRC also developed the Pre-Construction Information for tendering purposes, liaising with the client identifying the relevant records, surveys and information required.

The Health and Safety file was developed during the design stage of the project and issued to the Principal Contractor on construction commencement then reviewed prior to issue to the Client on project completion.

Adding Value

Our roles on previous similar projects of managing the interfaces with the general public and construction works were essential to the project. It allowed a clear logistics and phasing plan to be developed so the park remained open in sections during the construction work.
