Client: Bridge Referrals Ltd
Programme: 26 weeks
Sector: Commercial Development
The project comprised of alterations to an existing industrial unit to create a specialist veterinary facility. With a sharp rise of families and pets following the pandemic, the client acknowledged the requirement for additional veterinary referral services in the Northeast of England.
Steel River Consultants (SRC) was appointed to provide cost management support to the client to ensure the project was delivered within the timeframe and budget.
Our services for this project included:
- Working in collaboration with the design team and specialist contractors.
- Liaising directly with the contractor via a partnering procurement route due to specific project constraints and associated risks.
- Cost Management including cost estimates, value management, management of the Cost Plan.
- Providing timely and accurate cost reporting whilst managing contractor applications for site works.
- Reviewing and agreeing client variations, and contractor pricing proposals.
SRC were appointed at an early stage to negotiate between client and contractor to ensure the disused building fit the requirements set out by the client. SRC quickly developed open collaboration with all parties to ensure expectations were being met within the timeframe and budget.
Before work commenced, the existing building had stood empty for several years; now completed, it is a fully 24-hour, 7 days a week working facility with circa 30 staff.
“At the outset, SRC showed diligence and understanding of our project. With guidance, SRC helped Bridge Referrals during a period of steep cost increases and supply shortages. They created a clear and identified path for us to understand what costs were being created. This allowed us to manage our funding so that it was always aligned with progress. In turn, this allowed key purchasing decisions to be made early and reduced costs. SRC professional attitude made the costing of the project extremely accurate and forward thinking.
Our project has been the construction of a veterinary referral hospital. This is a complex build requiring great contact and engagement with multiple technical and medical suppliers. By using SRCPM it allowed us to engage our main building contractor in a partnership approach. This meant that we could move through the build programme with confidence that we were getting exactly what we needed. SRCPM monitored the build process for us. Allowing us to position ourselves this way to maximise our tailor-made building.
SRCPM’s attitude and communication back to all parties has been exceptional. Their clarity and commitment has been refreshing. We will be finishing our project on time and on budget. Their accuracy over our 26-week programme has been extremely professional.”
